Roof space turned into a room, with hickory laid the length of it.
The challenge
Attics come with the ceiling already decided for you — the roof pitch is the room.
Our approach
The slope was worked with rather than against: plaster taken clean up the rafter line, a single window kept at the gable end so the light runs the length of the floor, and a step retained to mark the change in level rather than boxing it out.
The result
Solid hickory, laid running toward the window.
