The Enclosed Porch
A three-season room added to the side of a colonial, built so the join reads as original.
The challenge
New construction meeting an existing house is where additions usually give themselves away — a roofline that does not quite line up, trim that does not quite match, a step in the siding.
Our approach
The shed roof was pitched to tie into the existing eaves line and finished in standing-seam metal. Trim, aprons and window proportions were set to match the house rather than the catalogue, and the glazing was run almost wall to wall so the room reads as light rather than as a box bolted on.
The result
A room that gets used from March to November, on a poured pad, with the transom over the door carrying the line through.
